This house is intended to embrace indoor-outdoor living, fit into the neighborhood, have creative work space, allow easy aging-in-place, and create a welcoming environment to host family and neighbors. It was designed for friends in the Satank area
The main living space embraces a patio that opens up to winter sun, Sopris views, and the spacious yard, which doubles as a disc golf practice pitch.
The front entry illustrates the house’s crisp use of basic standing-seam metal siding that is cost-effective, low-maintenance, and suitably characteristic of humble rural areas like Satank, particularly as it mellows with age.
From the entry a visitor is easily drawn to both indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.
The heart of the house, its main living, dining and kitchen space effortlessly transitions outdoors to the patio. The adjacent primary bedroom enables living comfortably on just one level of the house.
Windows throughout the house frame unique views of nearby terrain, including high windows in the main living space that take in the horizon of Red Hill rising to the north. The kitchen and pantry is well equipped to cook for gatherings.
A second floor writing studio doubles as a guestroom and offers great views of Sopris and the surrounding mountains.
